Makko Nyonya Restaurant |
My family
and I had the pleasure of dining in Makko Nyonya Restaurant last
Saturday. This restaurant served authentic Nyonya or
Peranakan (Straits Chinese) food.
Nyonya food, also referred to as Straits Chinese
food, is an an exotic blend of Chinese and Malay savoury
cuisines thought to have originated from
the Peranakan of Malacca over 400 years ago. This was the result of
inter-marriages between Chinese immigrants and local Malays, which
produced a unique culture. Here, the ladies are called
Nyonyas and the men Babas.
We had a
wonderful time enjoying the Pongteh Chicken, Lemak Ikan Asin with
Pineapple, Assam Fish & Udang Gerang Assam served in Makko.
I highly recommend visitors who would like to taste the
Straits Chinese cooking to check out this
restaurant.
